A Tales Retrospective
By DARCY S. O'NEIL July 21, 2008

As soon as Tales of the Cocktail gets started, it seems it is over. As a friend said, too many drinks makes the nights go by fast. But, most people used their time very well and made the most of the sessions, parties, bars and the city. There are hundreds of posts and comments about the event showing up on the Blogosphere and this is my small contribution to such a big event. This is how it went down for me.

Poll Results: Favorite Primary Spirit
July 1, 2008

Well, I left this poll up for a fairly long time. But I watched it closely and noticed that the results changed the longer I left the poll open. Initially whisky was in first place, not surprisingly at about 48% and rum and gin were number two and three respectively. But as the poll gathered votes, vodka started to make a rapid climb in the standings, from about 5% to the current 24% and whisky declined to 31%. So what does this tell us?

Poll Results: New Site
March 8, 2008
The results are in and the majority of people (80%) like the new site, which is encouraging. Of those, 49% thought it was a very good design and 31% said it made the grade. A small portion (10%) of readers liked the old site better and 3% thought the new design was crap. The rest are wishy-washy or don't really care, because it is just a blog. The new poll is up, so which trend are you following in the cocktail world?
How much ice do you need to make a good drink?
January 27, 2008

This is a question that comes up fairly frequently. Either from new bartenders or just someone wanting to make a good drink. My general rule of thumb is to use more ice than you think is necessary. At the bar, I'll pack a glass with so much ice that it crests over the top. Once you add the liquids, the ice level drops substantially.
